ART STAGE SINGAPORE 2017


ART STAGE SINGAPORE 2017 is one of big exhibition which has 131 galleries with the second Southeast Asia Forum and regional and international galleries presenting artists from across Asia and the world. Art Stage Singapore is the leading Asian art fair connecting the world to the best of Asian contemporary art. This exhibition will be held on 12th January 2017 until 15th January 2017 in Sands Expo and Convention Centre Hall at Marina Bay Sands.

These are several my favourite artists which have put their artworks in this exhibition.

1. Ashley Bickerton.

Ashley Bickerton was born in Barbados (1959). The left artwork is created using oil and acrylic (2016) and the right artwork is created using oil painting (2016.

These artworks are quite abstract, but the woman in this artwork can be still recognized. It is unique and artistic.

2. Abdi Setiawan.

Abdi Setiawan was born in West Sumatera, Indonesia (1971). This sculpture was titled Gombal which means a man tries to seduce a woman. The material which is used such as acrylic on teak wood (2007). The texture of acrylic paint in the teak wood makes the sculpture is very different and unique.

3. Chua Ek Kay.

Chua Ek Kay is an artist who comes from Guangdong Province, China (1947). The left painting is titled The Merapi View (2006) and the right painting is titled The Tree in front of Borobudur Gallery (2006). Although this artist comes from China, he created an artwork which can show the characteristic of Indonesia. Moreover, these painting were created using mix media on canvas, which means he can use different paints to create one artwork.

4. Koeboe Sarawan.

Koeboe Sarawan is one of artist who comes from Malang, Indonesia (1961). The left painting has named Deep in Silence (Dalam Keheningan), 2015. The right painting has named Toward Silence (Menuju Keheningan), 2016. He paints this artwork using oil on canvas. Moreover, this painting can represent the Buddhist religion and also it is so detail, like realistic.

5. Hanakata.

Hanakata is one of artist who comes from Japan. This rooster sculpture has made for celebrating the Chinese New Year for this year which is the Rooster Year. This sculpture was made using rubbish. The artist used rubbish for producing an artwork which is simple, such as only 2 roosters. However, the sculpture can be unique is because the media itself. The artist finds the rubbish in Yodogawa River in Japan.

6. Akira Shirahata.

Akira Shirahata is an artist who comes from Oshima, Tokyo (1946). Her artworks are made by glass and marble. These 4 artworks are very beautiful, unique and can be one of the characteristic of this artist itself. The first artwork was named Flame Information, the second is Bamboo Shoots, the third is A Crest and the last artwork is Fire Spirit. Every sculpture has different theme and the artist is quite success to show it i her artwork.

7. Mayu Saito.

Mayu Saito is an artist who comes from Tokyo (1971). He creates his artworks uses porcelain. The left artwork was named Voice and the right artwork was named And If The 9. . From these artwork, I can see the characteristic of Japan itself, such as can represent the fish shape in the sculpture. Although, he uses white porcelain, the artwork are very nice and unique with different texture in every surface.

8. Gopal Samantray.

Gopal Samantray is one of artist who comes from Odisha (June, 1976). His artworks were made using acrylic on canvas. The left painting names Awaiting and the right painting names Dancing Crane. He use the storks as the icon of his artworks It looks so detail and more realistic.

9. Paul Davies.

Paul Davies is one of artist who comes from Sdyney, Australia (1979). He creates these artworks using acrylic on linen. Moreover, this artworks do not have so much colors, but it can still recognized by people what it iis. The colors are very contrast and can tell more about what this painting about. The left painting names Bridges and Palms (2012) and the right painting names Empty Home, Empty Well.

10. Jayanta Roy.

Jayanta Roy comes from Kolkata (1973).The left artwork names Brush Up Your Aesthetic which is made by oil, acrylic and serigraphy on canvas (2015). For me, the technique of this artwork is unique, because the artist use painting and photograph to create this artwork. The right artwork names B-Vision which is made by oil and acrylic on canvas (2015). This painting is so cute and very simple.

I am so happy that I can go to this big exhibition. I can see so many paintings and arts in different styles. Every artwork has different style, different story and can show the characteristic of the country.

Almost of the artists are Asian, but I can also know that Asia has a big influence for art and design. By joining this short field trip, I can get inspiration for how to create an artwork which can give good impact to other people, especially for my own country and for other countries which have different cultures.

I like to see different culture in art and design, because it can give me knowledge, experience, and inpiration about art and design itself.
