History Repeats Itself is a meditation on the history of power, seeking to make visible the legacies of colonial conquest in Southeast Asia. The burnt-out ships in this installation recall the ominous appearance of European armadas on the horizon during the early centuries of European colonialism.

This wonderful artwork was made by gold-plated nutmeg, copper-plated wood, nickel-plated wood, burnt wood, sampan, wood, aluminium, copper, soil, light and nutmeg perfume.
The reason why I like this artwork is because it is unique with the story behind. By doing this artwork, people can know little bit about Indonesia history before Indonesia can get their freedom. However, the light from the statue is very bright in the dark room. The gold light can give beautiful effect to the statue itself.
By knowing about Titarubi, I am inspired by her and also by how she tries to create an artwork based on what she has experienced before. Moreover, she really brings Indonesia's culture into her artwork and until she has become an international artist.
In my point of view as a graphic designer who comes as well from Indonesia, Titarubi has been success to introduce about Indonesia's story to other people.
She has been my inspiration as a graphic designer, that it is okay to put my culture into my artwork. It is because, when I put my culture to my artwork, it means that I love and I respect my culture itself.

As a graphic designer who comes and lives in Indonesia, I support Titarubi to always create wonderful artworks which can show more about Indonesia. Although, Indonesia has become a popular country, Indonesia still needs people who can introduce them to be a pride country.
